Wedding Cupcakes - Cool or Tacky?

Say the word “cupcake” and you may immediately think of gaily colored goodies for kid’s birthday parties or rich, chocolate and vanilla iced treats of a bake sales…anything but an elegant wedding. But hold on! Wedding cupcakes don’t have to be multicolored, candy-topped treats (which are AWESOME also almost any other time!) Cupcakes may actually be a better choice for your wedding reception than cake, and with decorating and presentation, wedding cupcakes can be as impressive as any 3-tiered number.

First, keep in mind that cupcakes are still cake–just little ones, so you would still be serving cake at your wedding.

And, you will be surprised at how much guests love eating cupcakes. They are easy to eat, they’re portable, and people like them! Think about it, you can have a slice of cake or you can have your very own mini cake with it’s own decorations. Which one is cooler?

The other side of this, is wedding cakes often don’t get eaten as much as you think. For example, my sister paid $600 for a 3-tier wedding cake that maybe a couple dozen people actually ate out of 150, including the kids. It just wasn’t worth the money and I’ve seen this at several weddings. Why? Well, by the time the cake is served, most guests are either a) full already, b) busy with the Electric Slide, or c) drunk. Buttercream is the last thing on their minds. You can spend less money on wedding cupcakes because you get get away with buying less and guests may be more inclined to eat them, or even take them home.

If the cupcakes are your only dessert, one each is more than enough. You may have people eat more than one, but you will absolutely have people who don’t eat any. If you have a dessert buffet, estimate that only half your guests would eat a wedding cupcake.

You can very easily serve two or several different flavors of cake if you go with cupcakes.

Create a memorable wedding reception for your guests with delicious and beautiful wedding cupcakes that make your guests feel special.
